What is the GDPR

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will replace the Data Protection Act on the 25th of May 2018. Its purpose is to ensure that organisations have strict policies and practises in place for managing all personal data.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHY & THE GDPR
It is common for Schools to appoint a local photography company to go in and take their pupils photographs with the intention of selling these to the parents so the school can earn valuable commission on sales to boost their school funds. At Digipix School Photography we share everyone’s concern about the protection of your personal information and is committed in safeguarding your privacy, In most cases on the day of School photographs we do not collect any personal data of any pupil or staff member that we are photographing, each image is assigned a unique reference number, which parents will see on their child’s proof photograph, the reference number that is issued against each child is generated by our uploading system, at no time do we link an image to any personal data or received any personal data about the pupils, resulting in no personal data being stored. However, we do request that the school has parental consent for all children to be photographed, this is normally covered by the consent forms sent out to parents at the beginning of a new academic year, but we will always confirm this with the school, and be asked to be made aware of any child who cannot be photographed so we do not breach GDPR compliance.

If for any reason during a photograph session we do need to be allocated personal data (for example if the school demonstrates and require SIMS), we will collaborate with the school, so we fully comply within the GDPR requirements.

For School photographs Digipix School Photography function as the main data controller in most cases. We will ensure that we will collaborate with our Schools so that we can assist them fully with the GDPR compliance. If your School would like any further information or would like to view a copy of our school process log or to discuss this with us, please contact Wendy on 01384 822804

PARENTS & THE GDPR
If you are a parent or carer and would like to know more about your child’s image being linked to their school ID, you will need to speak to the school in person.
